Champagne Madeira
This is a very special garment for Coelho, being the first textile gifted to me by my grandmother (vovo) and seamstress extraordinaire. Originally skeptical of Coelho’s re-purposed ethos, vovo was hesitant to trust me with her own work. It was only when a dozen garments had been constructed that she felt comfortable with the notion of me cutting up one of her works.
The original tablecloth features embroidery inspired by vovo’s early life in Portugal. Her mother taught her to sew traditional techniques such as fine Madeira embroidery - synonymous with excellence, tradition, detail, art and identity. Traditional ‘Bastidos’ stitches detail the winding flowers.

Inspired by the 70s ‘peacock revolution’ this shirt sports a wide collar and deep neckline married with classic bowling shirt motifs. The embroidery and stitching is finished with a starchy white satin- which illuminates under the blue lights of a bowling alley or a club 77 dance floor.
All wear, mending, and idiosyncrasies are unique to the custom textile. Each piece is pre-loved and its story lives on through you.
